Much like the lyrics in some of the other songs that are in the playlist I'm listening to right now. There's the 10,000 Maniacs ode to loyalty that makes me want to reach out to every single one of my friends every time I hear it: Why let your shoulders bend underneath this burden when my back is sturdy and strong? Trouble me.
Colin Hay's "Waiting for My Real Life to Begin" always seems to ring true for me: Any minute now my ship is coming in. I'll keep checking the horizon.... Me too, Colin. Me too.
I think we've all had a crush-from-afar like the one Billy Bragg describes in "The Saturday Boy": In the end it took me a dictionary to find out the meaning of unrequited while she was giving herself for free at a party to which I was never invited.
There's the ironic don't-know-what-you've-got-til-it's-gone theme that Tom Waits writes about in a serenade: I never saw the white line til I was leaving you behind. I never knew I needed you til I was caught up in a bind.
Finally, this motto by Dave Matthews is one I try to remember any time the going gets tough: Turns out not where but who you're with that really matters.... There's probably more truth in that one statement than in hundreds of songs combined.

I'm not sure I believe that Jeff Tweedy's glad it's over.
Sounds like an excellent playlist. I've gotten all into Colin Hay and David Gray lately.
Also, how sad is it that the last concert I went to was Wilco -- and that was more than three years ago. Must update the iPod with their new stuff... (but I'll always like Tupelo better)
